"50/50," the new cancer comedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen, is probably as good a bet as any to finish first among this weekend's crop of new releases expected to open Friday (Sept. 30) in New Orleans-area theaters. But by no means is it the only new movie from which to choose. Some six new films are on tap. Here's the low-down on each:
50/50

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star as best friends in this cancer comedy -- inspired by real events in Rogen's life -- about a man who receives Earth-shattering news from his doctor and must then figure out a way to deal with it.

Courageous

From the filmmakers behind 2008's faith-based firefighter drama "Fireproof" comes this drama about four cops who find their faith put to the test in the face of great tragedy.

Dream House

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

A horror-comedy about a pair of hillbillies who, while visiting their dilapidated mountain cabin, are waylaid by a pack of suspicious preppies.
Opening Friday (Sept. 30) exclusively at the Zeitgiest Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center.

What's Your Number?
