Your Character
Better that you own me
Then setting myself free
A one track mind sent out to sea
Confused over what you want to be,
Thought you were a rose in garden so dead
Funny how the lies flew right over your head
Each day living in news imposed dread
Not convinced after all has been said,
That’s what I get from a faulty mind
You surely gave me a taste of the bitter rind
You taught me how love can be so unkind
A storm approaches but it’s not silver lined,
The lies surround me in this corrupt sphere
Cruel and conniving you made that so clear
Into stormy waters we would steer
The thousandth production of King Lear,
Sometimes love comes at a terrible price
Before you give into impulse better think twice
The wisdom of a poet succumbing to vice
Heroes once noted now the embellishment of mice,
Now time torments me
Beneath the Hemlock tree
A forked tongue seems to be the key
Government corruption by decree,
You were a troubled cure
For a man who was unsure
Waiting for your words to reassure
But your character was much too impure.
