The album is dedicated to arousing citizens to step up over their rights in opposition to the oppressive government that was emerging more and more while Northern Ireland was now occupied by British Troops in the streets. Today, America now faces much the same prospect as hospitals ignore emergency life saving operations needed by patients in critical condition for the phantom coronavirus pandemic that has caused two Mercy Ships with thousands of beds to remain without a single patient. While people who needed triple bypass surgery die on a waiting list thanks to our mayors and governors of blue states who still allow abortion clinics to operate! These freedom deprived cities are dumping landfill dirt into skate boarding parks in LA to prevent kids from having groups outside as they play in the fresh air!

Media hype

NFL players on TV tell us stay in to save lives while people are committing suicide unable to earn money to pay their bills. Think of the restaurant owner in business for years who is expected to endure months of shut down restrictions imposed by the state. With clinics now abandoned and hospitals closing down with no patients where are the thousands supposedly dying of coronavirus who desperately need treatment? Why are authorities unconcerned over past pandemics such as the SARS, Swine Flu, Mad Cow disease, West Nile Virus, or the normal influenza that takes more than 30 thousand lives each year. There have been no lock downs or quarantines for these contagions. Why does the loss of 30.000 people a year not seem like an emergency crisis?

True meaning

Now ask yourself, do you live in a city of light? Paris was once nick named the "City of Light" but Phil Manzanera's song has little to do with a city that celebrates freedom. On his album the song instead refers to cities that oppress the citizens with draconian laws that make no sense other than to restrict people's lives, movement, and activities. Cities such as Detroit, once the car making capital of the world now reduced to urban decay, high crime, out of control poverty, and a police force afraid to enforce the law due to under funding and held back by minority city councils who don't want the rule of law applied to people of color when it is they who more often break the law.

Bastions of Democrat Failure

Cities like Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Ferguson under Democrat controlled local government for decades are now overrun by gangs, illegal aliens seeking sanctuary, and criminals who are continually released on bail only to commit violent acts again. With high unemployment and public schools that are poorly managed turning out low level IQ students with low test scores Democrats convince their constituents that its the fault of Republicans. They continue to spend more and create more deficits on welfare, food stamps, and unemployment benefits while government workers are paid lavish perks and pensions as taxes increase to ridiculous levels. These are the Cities of Light because they exist in the darkness of oppression! Under Democrat control the US taxpayer is held hostage to fund welfare programs, food stamps to buy votes for the Democrats, and aid for illegal aliens who will also cast votes in an America they are not even citizens of!

Government sanctioned decay

While children must comb the grounds of public parks for heroin needles in the grass people in the streets must wear masks due to dried human excrement blowing off the concrete and becoming an airborne health hazard as city officials in California create an environment of filth and lawlessness! This is what the people of San Francisco and Los Angeles define as socially responsible communities, the Cities of Light, referred to in the song.To think of the city of Philadelphia where a nation was born based upon liberty is now a place where an under strength police force cannot control drug gangs, street gangs battling for control of their turf and where a flash mob of blacks was alerted by cell phone to show up and harass and attack white residents. Two hundred black youths raping and beating 2 young white teenagers almost to death while police failed to arrive. Just another "City of Light". Our country is under asymmetrical warfare.
