It is October 19, 2019 at 5:46 AM. This will be the last time any visual evidence of Mark is seen again. At the time he has stopped at a convenience store for gas and supplied on his way to Medicine Bow National Park on an ominous mission. That was to hunt Bigfoot. The previous year, Mark has been on a deer hunting holiday, but something hair raising had occurred. Something had been following him. At first he wasn’t sure until he got a glimpse of a large bi-pedal creature that scared the daylights out of him. Rocks were thrown at him! He rushed down from the mountain slope armed with only a 22 caliber rifle that he knew would never be enough to stop this thing! Frantically racing downhill in such an ill-advised way that he could have fallen and gotten seriously injured, Mark finally got back to the roadside where he got to his truck. Little did he know that he had been “Escorted” out of Bigfoot territory as experts in the field describe it.

After his first experience, Mark had vowed that he would return and seek vengeance for what had happened being that he had not only been frightened and insufficiently prepared, but humiliated by a big primitive creature thought that he should have been able to handle. After the incident he became obsessed with the subject and his live-in girlfriend noted that he grabbed all the reading material he could and watched a number of documentaries about Sasquatch. His deadly ambition would lead him down the road to oblivion. An experienced hunter, and former forest guide, he knew the area well and would not have likely gotten lost.

This time, armed with a high powered rifle that could fire multiple rounds and a large hunting knife, Mark had driven toward Medicine Bow National Park. Loaded down with survival gear and binoculars he was well equipped. His girlfriend, who had gone on many hunting treks by his side had not gone with Mark on this occasion. It was 11:00 o’clock that morning when Mark texted Carrie, his girlfriend, on her cell phone. He claimed to have wounded a Sasquatch, but it had gotten away, but he was on its trail! Carrie was concerned after reading more of his paranoid texts. At the same time the weather was closing in. A predicted blizzard was headed for the area. Not very good conditions to be hunting in, much less hunting for Bigfoot! Carrie had never taken Sasquatch seriously thinking it was all simply a mythical legend.

Within the Cat’s Forest, where Mark is probing into, there have been bizarre stories of large dark figures roaming the woods by locals and park rangers even stories of rangers themselves having observed the elusive cryptids. Since the 1970’s these tales of strange activity had haunted the mountainous terrain peaking at 12,000 feet and having unpredictable weather that could mean life or death for the unwary or unprepared. Mark was so determined that he continued on! Carrie had sent him several texts that went unanswered. Two hunters coming down from the mountains that afternoon saw Mark and warned him that the weather was getting too dangerous, but he ignored them as he climbed further! Had they heard the report from Mark’s rifle earlier?

Carrie returned to their residence the next day, and found that Mark had not come back. She immediately called the police, and then drove down to the Changi Recreation ground where she knew Mark planned to hunt. There, she found his white pick-up truck by the side of the road, abandoned, but with all of his personal items still inside including his cell phone along with his keys. She was able to start the truck, so it was in drivable condition. The snowfall had been heavy, and searchers were not on the ground until the following day. They scoured the immediate area, but found nothing. They did, however, find huge footprints in the snow of  a creature weighing at least 400 pounds or more, leading deeper into the wilderness. As in most disappearances noted by David Paulides, weather had played a role in frustrating search efforts! The case would not be solved for some time as it would not be until October of 2020 until any trace of Mark could be found. Some of his gear, the binoculars and knife were discovered by two hikers. That was the first clue, and as in many of the 411-Book Series, the evidence was found very close to the point of separation within 300 feet of Mark’s truck, an area that had been thoroughly searched.

It would not be until months later that further evidence of Mark’s fate would be uncovered. 17 miles away on Rock Mountain slopes were more keys to the disappearance. A backpack, shredded clothing, and what appeared to be a lower jawbone and teeth along with human ribs were also discovered! Authorities were notified and forensics experts examined the remains which were determined to be Mark’s. Nearby, his hunting rifle and other items were found. A bullet had been chambered but had not been fired, yet the rifle has been shot before that round. Whatever happened, Mark had shot something once but hadn’t had time to get off a second shot! Examiners determined that he had been struck a massive blow, and that the damage done was not similar to a bear attack, coyote, or any other predator.

Chillingly, Mark had been murdered some distance away and carried to where the remains had been found. Who or what would have carried Mark’s body several thousands of feet up a slope to leave the body on Rock Mountain Peak? Only one candidate remained obvious! Carrie identified the items as well as the rifle as belonging to Mark. The grizzly puzzle had been solved. The park ranger’s report hinted at a fatal attack of some kind that could have involved paranormal aspects, but they would not speculate further.
