Federal Workers Will Still Receive Raises Despite Pay Freeze

President Obama’s proposal of a pay freeze for federal employees is a small step towards curbing government spending. However, a closer look shows there is less to it than meets the eye. In fact, many federal employees will still see their salaries increased.

While Obama’s plan would stop the annual across-the-board cost of living adjustment (COLA) for all federal workers, it will not stop workers from getting raises altogether. The freeze will not affect pay raises for job classification upgrades. As an official at the Office of Management and Budget told Federal News Radio, “employees will still be eligible for step increases.”

All people are going to do is keep taking it and taking it till they bleed. "Cut/freeze my pay as long as I still have a job, I don't care, my family is ok." In the mean time they will continue to borrow money at 19-20% from the banks in unsecured credit card loans, so they can buy the foreign made products to keep their kids and spouses happy for 5 more minutes in celebration of the winter consumer holidays, and pay for it the next 10 years making minimum payments.

Well republicans have always loved cheap peon slave labor. Not that Democrats hate it, but they have to pretend because that's how the script writers write their characters ~ "Fine I'll sign off on lowering the minimum wage to $1.00/day but you gotta sign off on designating a couple acres of rocks and snow in Alaska as a gay baby snow whale preserve so my constituents don't hang me, okay?"

Remember, many of these guys are former CEOs, so it's no wonder that they care about lower level federal workers about as much as a CEO cares about the widget assemblers without which his kids would be going to college at Walmart University.

Whether in government or the private sector the battle lines are drawn at a decimal place on a paycheck.

When your pay fails to increase with the cost of living you are being ripped off whether your employer is the government or private. You are actually being paid less since the dollar is worth less and any negotiations you have with your employer should point this out in no uncertain terms. "Why are you decreasing my pay? If you decrease my pay does that mean I get to work less hours for my pay check, perhaps take 30 minute breaks, or do you simply intend to steal from me without appropriate compensation? How does this theft fit in to company's policy on employee theft, and who should I report it to?
