How likely is it that 5 seasoned US Marine Corps veterans all of which served two tours in Vietnam were frightened by several Bigfoot creatures? It happened at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina in the back of the base where a narrow river great for fishing became a scene of daytime terror. Several times the Brothers in Arms had chosen the secluded spot to enjoy nature and get some fishing done. The area neared a railroad crossing over the river that they used to get to the other side and begin their adventure.
Deafening silence
Nothing strange had happened there before. Each man had been in the thick of it in the midst of battle in Vietnam and to say that there wasn’t much that could scare them would have been an understatement. They would park then walk a mile to the Railroad Bridge to cross over and set up to fish. The walk along the railroad track led them to their special fishing site. As usual the fish were biting and they were enjoying their weekend getaway. Late in the afternoon almost close to sunset it was when they noticed the woods had grown completely silent. No birds, squirrels, or insects buzzing. Nothing. To most this is the sign of something super natural emerging.
The assault begins
Then it began. First, a huge tree limb was thrown into the river toward them. Eight inches in diameter, it was too big for any man to throw. It didn’t just fall out of one of the trees either and there was no wind. Someone had to have intentionally throw it, and whoever it was had to be big and powerful. Just then, they heard what sounded like a huge beast walking on two feet thrashing through dense briars and saplings no man could have walked through. They could see by the tops of the trees that were being broken that whoever it was had to have been close to eight feet tall. It this wasn’t bad enough there seemed to be more noise coming from a different direction. Then began the screams and growls louder than any animal could have made that vibrated their chests.
The long frightening walk back
The foliage was so thick all they could see was the huge dark silhouette of something tall a few feet in from the shore of the river crashing through the woods! They were preparing for a fight, but all they had were fish fillet knives. They decided to head for the railroad tracks that would lead them back to their cars once the racket settled down as it seemed their mysterious assailants headed away from them deep into the heavy forest. They still feared on that long mile walk back that the Sasquatch might circle back on them so all were incredibly scared, more so than at any time when they faced the enemy in the heat of battle! One veteran said that it was the longest mile he ever walked in his life.
As though they were prey
Not a word was said between the men as they carefully made their way back. They decided this wasn’t anything they wanted to tell anyone back at the base as it could affect their careers. So, they kept quiet about the incident, but never got together for another fishing trip again. They never spoke about the terrifying experience again. However, it was agreed upon that on that day two of the Sasquatch were trying to herd the men into the path of the others who were waiting to ambush them like they were prey. When the seasoned combat veterans failed to take off running, their plan had failed so the furry bipeds ran off into the deep forest.
Conclusion
That this incident occurred on the famous Camp Lejeune US Marine Corps Base is amazing. Even more amazing is that it happened in broad daylight and 5 experienced soldiers were threatened. Had they had their M-16’s handy the situation might well have ended differently but they were lucky to have escaped having nothing that would have helped them against the powerful creatures who apparently were on the hunt. I’ve heard this time and time again when soldiers confronted by Sasquatch don’t even consider using their rifles as they think they don’t have the caliber to knock something that big down and they’d only piss it off! Then shoot for the head fool!
