A former Lakewood police officer says post-traumatic stress disorder caused him to crash his patrol car in March.
Adam Leonard resigned earlier this month after an outside investigation found he had lied about the incident.
The News-Tribune reports Leonard says he can't remember what led up to the accident. After he drove off Perimeter Road in March, Leonard told the department he had been chasing a speeding car when someone inside pointed a shotgun at him.
Leonard denies lying and said he was diagnosed with PTSD after four Lakewood officers were killed in November 2009, at a Parkland coffee shop. He thinks it caused a delusion.

A Lakewood police officer has resigned after it was discovered he lied about how he crashed his patrol car.
In March, Officer Adam Leonard , 34, claimed he was chasing a speeding car when someone inside the car pointed a gun at him. But an outside investigation by the Washington State Patrol found there was no other car and no suspect with a gun.
Leonard was in a squad that included the four officers who were gunned down on Nov. 29, 2009, at a coffee shop. The officer was not at the coffee shop during the killing.
