Thoughts on Christmas Eve
Oh Lord it's Christmas eve again
What do I do to blend?
Footprints in the snow lead to a friend?
Regrets that are forgiven but have no end,
The patter of little feet in the morning
Dear Lord what joy you must bring
A place in their minds where angels sing
The promise of peace we need to be coming,
Oh how quiet the reflections of joy past
Not knowing it wouldn't last
The Christmas lights and the colors they cast
On this holy night we saw the North Star and were aghast,
Thinking of love lost that will never return
Oh Savior of mine help me to discern
Between this midnight oil and how fate turns
In all our best intentions do we ever really learn?
Little faces that smiled at me this time of year
All the reasons for joy used to be so clear
When I could feel the Christmas spirit so near
Now by myself living in a world of fear,
Oh my Messiah please give me a sign
As sure as your birth was divine
Just as surely as the ice outside will shine
Just allow a speck of your mercy to be mine.
