I've read a lot about vitamin D and of course take it every day especially during the winter months here in Minnesota where the sun doesn't shine but I was wondering what other people are taking, the amount in I.U., international units.

Anyone?

And just in case you didn't know, about 90% of the US population is deficient in vitamin D. You can only get vitamin D in sufficient amounts from the sun and sunscreen blocks it.

The sun does not define my sleeping patterns at all. Tiredness does. I sleep when I'm tired whether the sun is not shining, or whether it is. It's called retirement.

Otherwise, for those not retired, our white male dominated culture defines ones sleeping patterns.

Death, thank you, I'm comfortable with 4,000 IUs but haven't has a blood test to determine actual levels. D3 is the way to go. Many people aren't taking the right D either.

PH, yes, the Hawaiian style shirts Bob is known for are my favorites. I have many. They're very comfortable and match my psychedelic colored rolling papers.

Dorcas, that's how much I take, thank you for commenting.

Yahya, I realize that Allah failed to bless the UK with sun. I knew that. Jesus followed suit. God didn't argue.

Although I'm not a fan of supplements and prefer a good diet of fruit, vegetables and fresh stuff, vitamin D is the only vitamin not available in the necessary amounts in food. You'd have to drink 10 quarts of D fortified milk a day to get 4,000 IUs of the stuff. I don't drink milk at all because it's contaminated with additives, hormones and antibiotics. Fish has some too, in very small amounts. The sun doesn't shine often here in Minnesota. An hour of sun gives you about 50,000 IUs which your body makes use of appropriately and discards the excess.

The sun, for confused Englishmen, revolves around the earth, which is a large flat body.
