How to detect and and report vote fraud
* November 2nd, 2010 10:16 am ET
Reports from around the country have already cited instances of voter irregularities and election tampering in various states. These incidents make little difference when victorious candidates win by large margins. But in close races, fraud leads to the losing candidate being placed into office.
How does a conscientious voter recognize vote fraud?
According to J. Christian Adams, who wrote a primer on what to watch for, there are tale-tell signs:
*Election officials who tell citizens who to vote for while giving voting instructions at the polls. (A felony).
*Mass illegal assistance--marching scores of the disabled into polling places and voting 'for' them, with little or no input from the voters themselves--also a felony.
*Phony voters. There are various ways this illegal activity is perpetrated. Using fictitious names, voting in the name of the deceased, providing forged documents or using tampered I.D. cards.
*Absentee ballot signature mismatches. Elections officials sometimes fail to insure a match.
*Cash for votes. ACORN became famous for this in 2008. Paying a person to vote is a felony.
*Loiterers. Watch for people who just hang around polling places for long periods of time. This is illegal. It is also illegal for a candidate, an elected official, or the family of an elected official or candidate to hang around voting places for extended periods of time.
*Intimidation of poll watchers and voters. Again, we saw this occur in 2008 with the New Black Panther Party. This, too, is a felony.
*Poll workers voting for voters under the guise of 'providing assistance.' There are legal limits on how far poll workers can go in assisting voters.
The primer lists several other signals of trouble, such as glitches in voting machines, counting errors, politicking inside the polling place (illegal), and the illegal practice of poll workers asking voters if they would like to vote straight party (usually specifying the Democrat Party)--which, again, is illegal.
An informative video on this subject can be found here.
So what can be done about these illegal activities?
Watch. Observe closely. Take notes. Take videos. And REPORT.
Any suspicious activity at voting places should be reported to at least 3 agencies--the Justice Department at 800-253-3931, the local police department or county sheriff's department, and the local news media.
