If You’re Humanoid
Just a lonely man doing a soft shoe
On a stage that nobody will view
All his once held beliefs gone askew
Everyone’s gone now and the children too,
In life we all tend to dance around the dew
Yet, when it hits we ask, “Who knew?”
Seems all life’s problems came right on cue
Wasn’t it a surprise when they were overdue?
When the rain comes beating down at my door
I no longer ask, “What for?”
Happens so often now why not more?
Think I’d rather be one of the last Condors,
Bodies and debris washed up onto the darkened shore
The scene became too intense to ignore
Then there were all the mysteries to explore
No magical Hollywood endings to adore,
There’s a forgotten birthday cake that went stale a long time ago
It was once something to look forward to now something to forego
Once upon a time long before I suffered that blow
Funny how all those regrets creep in from below,
People walk away very quickly as if I don’t realize
All those opportunities I may have compromised
All the love that was somehow euthanized
The way in which I became ostracized,
Now living in this timeless void
Seems the rest of the world is quite annoyed
The atmosphere seems to be provocatively paranoid
You can’t avoid these perceptions if you’re humanoid.
