Looking in the mirror what do I see?
Shame perhaps a little fear deep in side me
Unlike a younger stronger man yet to be betrayed
So many times it could have made a bed where he laid,
Enough betrayal and sorrow becomes a refuge
Not unlike uranium in a centrifuge
Unlocking destruction terrible and huge
The plight of the indoctrinated stooge,
All these impressions swimming in our heads
Better to just to remain confused instead
Haunted by droplets of blood where Jesus bled
A mirror that witnesses the tears I've shed,
Do good to minimize a lifetime of regret
But even when you do grief is all you get
Trudging through life knowing your forgotten
Wondering at personal gains were they ill gotten,
What have men become today?
Discouraged until they learn to stay away
Abandoned on a cold gray day
Befallen by women who never want to stay,
The mirror sees all and yet only reflects
Just like those who distort and deflect
All those hopes ending like a shipwreck
That elusive miracle we sometimes expect,
The mirror is just like a camera lens
Always reflecting but it never pretends
Capturing glimpses of life until the end
All those indiscretions you can never defend,
An image of desperation that stares right back
That wall of self assuredness starts to crack
The vain and insecure who think the mirror attacks
Those memories of being stabbed in the back,
The mirror of life laced with irony
What is instead of how things should be
The envy for those who live joyfully
How much of our lives were only a fantasy?
