Last Shared Kiss
The spirits of brokenhearted love often linger
The past is not easily defeated by the gesture of a finger,
Like phantoms hovering in the mist
The recollection of a last shared kiss,
The unanswered pleas begging not to be left
The heart doesn’t always recover from theft,
Where will those frozen memories strike next?
Convincing you that you’ve been hexed,
Of all the curses that could possibly have been conceived
This is one where revenge was surely achieved,
Let me walk out into the veldt
Where predators hold court and a terrible justice is held,
Perhaps the terror will not be as bad as prolonged sorrow
No longer exercises in futility need I borrow,
We are all but islands scattered across an infinite sea
There is little to join, connect, or set us free,
Seeking some magical cure to liberate me
From this shipwreck of humanity,
Cast off the lines and prepare to set sail
We embark on a journey but may not prevail,
For I would rather perish in stormy seas
Than play with the cards that have been dealt to me.
