When you’ve been left behind
Your worldview becomes misaligned
Joy becomes harder to find
Like the darkened entrance of an abandoned mine,
Sitting alone drinking your wine
In an empty room biding your time
Funny how your fate turned on a dime
When you’ve been left behind,
What force can make mankind bend?
Surely it signals the end
Fences that you needed to mend
Hard to find true friends,
When you’ve been left behind
Your worldview becomes misaligned
Joy becomes harder to find
Like the darkened entrance of an abandoned mine,
Sitting alone drinking your wine
In an empty room biding your time
Funny how your fate turned on a dime
When you’ve been left behind,
What force can make mankind bend?
Surely it signals the end
Fences that you needed to mend
Hard to find true friends,
It seemed as though life wasn’t so unkind
You even noticed when the sun would shine
You gazed upon the world with an unclouded mind
Once you’ve been left behind,
Once you had a valentine
A wedding ring that appeared so divine
I was yours and you were mine
All before I was left behind,
Nothing is meant to last this is true
It seems all of our accomplishments fade from view
All debts become payable and due
All who never cared about what they put you through.

Cheeki kea as always your words of beauty and encouragement leave my eyes flooded. You are so kind.
Wow timeless and classic Doc V. Is this a song you've written? It feels like one, almost like it could jump clean out of the post and Twink itself right into a tune, like a song from the olden days. Your poem has a beautiful flow to it but with the bonus of a story line. Anyways this the tune that sprang fourth into my mind as I was reading it for some reason. Still heard on radio occasionally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mA54NBtPKdI
