Why do we feel like we have to apologize for speaking the truth?

Perhaps I am from the old-school, but I think we are supposed to apologize when we are un-truthful. Lying. That is what my parents taught me to apologize for.

But everything is upside down in America. Good is evil…evil is good. Black is white…white is black.

“Woe to those who call good evil and evil good.”

We are apologizing for the wrong things, and I am sick and tired of it.

It reminds me of the time when I used to teach “troubled” kids. In truth, they were rebellious, unregenerate, and of their father the devil. That is what I told them.

But they had been told that they had “special needs.” Most of them could have been straightened out by a little love and the “board of education.” Their “behavior” was their disability. They needed to be taught to respect authority, but, of course, that wasn’t permissible.

“I have a learning disability” one of the punks said to me one day.

“Yeah, I know.” I responded. “Your disability is that you are proud of what you should be ashamed of and ashamed of what you should be proud of.

I used tough-love on those kids. I was harsh. I spoke the truth to them. I made them responsible for their behavior. I restored their dignity. To this day, those “troubled kids”, now adults, would run through a wall for me.

That’s what truth does for people. It sets them free. Truth empowers the soul. Only by facing the truth of their condition can they ever truly be healed.

That doesn’t mean I never wished I had said something differently. Many times I could have delivered the truth in a more palatable way, but more often than not, the truth is hard to swallow no matter how much you sugar-coat it.

I have never once in my life apologized for speaking the truth. Never have, never will.

We, those of us who are not afraid to speak the truth, are rapidly disappearing. At a time when straight-talking is more needed than ever, very few are willing to take the heat.

It is time for some of them to get out of the kitchen.

Rush is sorry. Franklin Graham is sorry. They are trying to make Kirk Cameron apologize. The President apologizes, the Generals apologize. Most pastors are afraid to offend.

Pointing out slutty behavior is not wrong. Engaging in slutty behavior is. Telling a woman who aborted her baby that she murdered her child is not wrong. Murdering the child is. Calling homosexual behavior “unnatural” and “ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization” is not wrong. Engaging in homosexual behavior is.

Why is speaking the truth so hard to do? Why do Christian men apologize for what the Bible teaches? Wasn’t it Paul who asked “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

I say it is time Christian-men grew some stones.

Rush called the Georgetown law-student a slut. He apologized for it. But what he said was truthful. What he should have said in his apology is this:

“I shouldn’t have called Miss Fluke a slut. I have no idea what her personal sexual-behavior is. When I was growing up, my mother taught me that a woman who had sexual relations outside of marriage was engaging in slutty behavior. Miss Fluke appears to be promoting slutty behavior. My mistake was assuming she was engaging in the same behavior she was promoting.

Rush’s rebuke would have been more credible had he not exhibited the same behavior he criticized.

Why do we cow-tow to the evil? What do we permit haters of God to dictate how we represent Jesus?

Franklin Graham questioned the President’s Christianity. The God-haters bellowed until Rev. Graham caved. The God-haters demand he apologize for defending the faith. Buckling under to their bullying is not Christian. (“The righteous are as bold as lions”) What he should have said is this.

I do not know the spiritual condition of President Obama. No one knows that but the Holy Spirit. The President tells us that he is a Christian, but Jesus warned us in the Holy Scriptures that we must judge a tree by his fruit. Homosexuality is un-Biblical. Abortion violates Christian law. Deception is unrighteous. Taking from one and giving to another is thievery. Forcing one to pay for what violates the conscience is not Christian.

Mr. Obama self-identifies as a Christian, but his belief system certainly does not line up with Biblical teachings. His fruit is not that of a Christian. As a minister of the Gospel, I have a duty to point that out. Mr. Obama, like all of us, will stand before Jesus and give account for his behavior.

Speaking the truth is getting more and more dangerous every day. I believe that in our lifetime we will once again see Christians die for what they believe.

I don’t want to die, but I don’t fear death. Most men live their lives like they are more afraid of living than they are of dying. When I go down I want to be standing up.

There is war raging around us. The battle is over truth. When we give ground; when we flinch in the face of fire, we dishonor the Christ we claim to serve. Compromise is Satan’s business card.

“Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels” -Mark 8:38

I don’t know what the future holds but I am not willing to sit around and lose without a fight. No matter what your beliefs are in regards to end-times theology, I can assure you that Christ is not glorified by the cowardice of American Christian men.
