Will St. Louis-area firearms dealers eventually be subjected to the same burdensome reporting requirements now imposed on gun dealers in the southwest border states?  The Sipsey Street Irregulars' Mike Vanderboegh has noted a good reason to expect so.  From a KRGV.com story:

[Special Agent in Charge of the BATFE Dallas Field Division Robert] Champion says the ATF is now seeing a change in the way the cartel operates. Instead of buying weapons locally they're getting them from all over the country and using the drug routes in reverse to get them back to Mexico.

Readers will remember that the ostensible justification for the new multiple long gun purchase reporting requirement in the four southwest border states (Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California) is that it will supposedly help stop gun trafficking to Mexico.  How it would do that, when the BATFE and Department of Justice let thousands of guns to be trafficked to Mexico when they knew all about them is something of a mystery.  But if gun traffickers are now dispersing their operation throughout the country, the dubious effectiveness of the new requirement in those four states is completely undermined.
