Marines posed with flag resembling Nazi SS logo in Afghanistan

Scout snipers in the Marine Corps shown with a flag bearing an "SS" similar in design to one used in Germany by the SS, a paramlitary force that operated under the Nazi party.

SAN DIEGO -- The U.S. Marine Corps confirmed Thursday that a sniper team in Afghanistan posed for a photograph in front of a flag with a logo resembling that of the notorious Nazi SS.

Use of the SS symbol is not acceptable, and the Marine Corps has addressed the issue, Lt. Col. Stewart Upton said in a statement. He did not specify what action was taken.

Upton said the Marines in the photograph, posted on an Internet blog, are no longer with the unit. The picture was taken in September 2010 in Sangin province, Afghanistan.

The photo shows a flag with what appear to be the letters "SS" in the shape of jagged lightning bolts. The symbol resembles that used by SS units in World War II.

Another photograph, which showed a stylized “SS” on a rifle held by a Marine, also recently began circulating, the Marine Corps Times reported.

The SS, or Schutzstaffel, was the police and military force of the Nazi Party, which was distinct from the general army. Members pledged an oath of loyalty to Adolf Hitler. SS units were held responsible for many war crimes and played an integral role in the extermination of millions of Jews along with gypsies and other people classed as undesirables. The SS was declared to be a criminal organization at the Nuremberg war crime trials.

The Knights Armament Company blog published the photo in May 2011, and attributed it to Tayler Jerome, of the 1st recon BN Charlie Co.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation in Washington D.C., which found the picture online and alerted the Marine Corps Times, said it was outraged and wants a full investigation.

Foundation officer Mikey Weinstein said he has been flooded with calls from former Marines offended by the photo and from one member of his organization who is an Auschwitz survivor.

"This needs to be fully investigated. This is a complete and total outrage," he said.

Notice they are all wearing sunglasses. Some, with their hats over their faces. As if they don't want to be identified...

They look suspect imo...

Nothing is as it seems these days..   i wonder what was in the minds of these Marines.  Were they saying something?  If so what?  The SS flag- which i wonder how in the world did they get it way out there in Afghanistan-  is under the Military United States Flag.  Are they saying they feel they are under a nazi regime? I don't know i wonder about everything.  I know flags and how they are flown have symbolism and how they are positioned also have meaning and purpose.  These Marines were saying something and being in the Marines must've known there would be blow back from such a purposeful pose.  Whatever they were saying it didn't make it to the MSM.  It does not resemble the nazi emblem, there is no mistake about it.  It is the SS nazi symbol

Czech troopers wore SS insignia

Tuesday 10 November 2009

Two army officers and their commander have been suspended after it emerged they had worn nazi insignia while serving with the occupation force in Afghanistan.

Czech Defence Minister Martin Bartak said that it was "unacceptable" that two commanders of a Czech rapid reaction brigade had worn symbols of World War II nazi SS divisions on their helmets while serving in Logar province.

Mr Bartak said: "Fundamental measures will be taken - if it is proved that there were soldiers in high command structures among those responsible, they will also bear the consequences."

Lieutenant Jan Cermak wore the emblem of the infamous SS Dirlewanger brigade and sergeant Hynek Matonoha wore the symbol of the 9th SS panzer division Hohenstaufen.

Their commander was suspended for allegedly turning a blind eye to the nazi emblems.

On Friday, before their penchant for nazi regalia came to light, Lt Cermak and Sgt Matonoha were decorated for their service in Afghanistan, where the Czech Republic has a 480-strong unit that serves under NATO command.

The Schutzstaffel or SS units were the cruellest in the nazi war machine which occupied swathes of Europe and the former Soviet Union during the second world war.

The "protective squadron" of the Nazi Party, SS members was tasked with exterminating "undesirables" in the civil population and targeting resistance fighters, Jews and communists in particular.

In an apparently separate case, another Czech soldier was booted out of the army on Monday for belonging to a neonazi organisation.

Lukas Sedlacek, who co-founded and trained the White Justice terror group, was stripped of his military rank.

Mr Bartak emphasised that Mr Sedlacek "will leave the army without the right of service retirement allowance and other perks."

According to Czech media, White Justice was preparing terror attacks on power plants and unit substations along with abductions of "Jews in high posts" and the police.

White Justice members were taught to destroy property, blow up cars and fight with or without weaponry.

At the beginning of this year Human Rights and Minorities Minister Michael Kocab warned that there were some 90 troops supporting "extremist groups" in the Czech military.

At that time the Defence Ministry dismissed Mr Kocab's claim.

Is  Mikey Weinstein The Military Religious Freedom Foundation's president or theADL's?

I would worry more about the regime's nazi-like policies both at home and abroad that on a logo displayed by a bunch of Marines in the mountains of Afghanistan

After reading the article my reaction is the same.  It is just not something you expect to see under an american flag with a bunch of marines in Afghanistan.  What were they thinking? I mean i know there is a lot of messing around with history but does anyone think the SS were anything but brutes to be feared if you lived in Nazi Germany during the war? No matter who you were?  I know i been brain washed about a lot of things but the SS makes me think of nothing but very stuff
