Mexican cartel operating out of Manly: police
Two men allegedly operating as part of a Mexican cartel in Manly could face life in prison after they were allegedly found with 30 kilograms of methamphetamine, guns and a large amount of cash.
Mexican nationals Federico Gonzalez Magana, 32, and Juan Vergara Rodriguez, 49, were arrested in Neutral Bay on Friday night after a joint investigation between the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Crime Commission.
When federal police executed search warrants in Manly, Pennant Hills and Moore Park on Friday, they allegedly found $2 million in cash, two firearms and the large amount of methamphetamine with a street value of $30 million, equal to 300,000 transactions of the drug.
The men, who lived at the same address, faced Parramatta Bail Court via video link and required a Spanish translator on Saturday. Bail was formally refused.
ACC national manager of investigations Richard Grant said the men were allegedly part of a Mexican cartel targeting Australia.
The pair will face Central Local Court on Wednesday.
