Mohave County, Arizona is the Northwest corner of the State of Arizona. Our western edge is the Colorado River system, Northern edge is Hoover Dam below Las Vegas, and then East along the Utah Border almost to the Grand Canyon National Park. And then several hundred miles south, across the Lower Grand Canyon, and part way to Phoenix. It is one of the largest counties, by area, of anyplace. Our major pupulation starts in the Southwest with Lake Havasu City, Home of the London Bridge, offshore boats on the lake, and Spring Break. To the east is Kingman, where I live. We have both Route 66 "The Mother Road" and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (Formerly ATSF), so we have history, mines, ranches, etc. Due East is Bullhead City, which is directly across the Colorado River from Laughlin, Nevada. The only other incorporated town, is Colorado City, formerly Short Creek, where Jeffs and the polygamists live. Talk about varied lifestyles! Our population is just over $200,000 in this enormous County, as per the 2010 Census. Like many other Counties, we are presently under the watchful eye of the US Justice Department as we go from a Board of 3 County Supervisors to a 5 person board. You notice I didn't say "man", because we will have at least two women, myself included, running in 2012.
So why do I want to be a candidate? Because I want my Country back. Although I am a Registered Republican, someone asked me today at a public meeting, if I am an Independent Republican, and I guess that pretty well covers it. As so many of us who have followed the Tea Party Movement, I had high hopes that the "New" Republicans in the House, would take up the causes of the people, but they do not seem so inclined. So that means it will be up to the Citizens of America to stand up and take our country back from the brink, before it is too late.
What are our issues here? Today it was a pet ordinance meeting. The Supervisors tried to limit the people of this County, great numbers of whom are rural, to a maximum of two dogs. Then they changed it to four dogs. One of the ranchers at the meeting had to turn in four puppies to the shelter because he was ovewr the limit. They would have eventually been working dogs, because we still have lots of coyotes, bobcats, and mountain lions that visit the rural areas. I even saw a bobcat less than a mile from the city limits of Kingman last winter. Pets disappear here, working dogs learn to protect themselves, the cattle and the ranch. If you live on 100 aces, that is tough on four dogs.
Our consensus today was to file papers with the County, preparatory to filing a Writ of Mandamus if necessary, to stop them from trying to enforce the four dog Ordinance, when they were told by the Court that the item must be on a ballot. Along with a proposed Ordinance drafted by the people.
The Board of Supervisors can best be described as the "Good Old Boys Club". Citizens are only permitted to speak on an agenda item after the outcome has pretty much been decided. We have had two people arrested at one of their meetings in the last year, for trying to protest some of their actions. They have decreed that groups are not allowed to protest outside the County Administration Building, they have passed an ordinance forbidding anyone to wear a hat in their meeting room, and a dress code for the public. They have installed security checkpoints in public buildings, for the public only, with sets of lockers where the armed security guards require the public to lock up their guns or knives, even though Arizona is a legal Concealed Carry State. One man was arrested for carrying a pitchfork as a symbol of the people, while gun owners came into the building before the gun ordinance was passed. He was acquitted and is suing the County. A second man was arrested for wearing a red. white and blue patriotic cap in the meeting room, and carrying a 3"x5" American flag, while others in that group were threatened with arrest if they did't put their american flags in their cars outside the building.. Another man, who is a Naturalized US Citizen was openly slandered by one of the Supervisors in the County newspaper, and he is suing too.
South of Mohave County, is La Paz County, where a reporter has been arrested four times this year for speaking at a City Council Meeting after having been given the floor by the Mayor of Quartzsite. What it all comes down to, is that citizens ARE going to be arrested for standing up for their Constitutional Rights
AND Citizens who CARE, are going to have to get themselves onto Boards and Commissions, and run for elected office..
