My Silly Old Heart
It wasn’t love at all
Just a flirtation in the fall,
It never really broke my heart
It was just that my world fell apart,
Only the most precious commodity in the world
Less and less of it as each moment is unfurled,
You were just a distant memory
It’s just that I have a problem with sentimentality,
Although the world seemed like a darker place
I disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle without a trace
Driving to every place we had ever been
My silly old heart of tin,
As though I were alone too often with my thoughts
I never seem to be able to connect the dots,
Tears of separation like Cupid’s darts in my chest
When it came to choosing lovers I never passed the test,
What is this thing called love
Sometimes it’s not what dreams are made of,
Give me a starship ride into oblivion
Let me sink into the sea and become an amphibian,
Let a tidal wave of love wash over me
Or at the very least the dignity of a burial at sea.
