The United States will soon release a long-awaited report detailing the findings of a Senate investigation into the CIA’s use of enhanced interrogation techniques, and sources now say those tactics far exceeded what the world was led to believe.
According to an article published on Sunday by the UK’s Telegraph, the American intelligence officers tasked with interrogating alleged Al-Qaeda members and other terror suspects in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks didn’t just waterboard detainees — they nearly killed them.

US, Ukraine launch joint maritime exercises in Black Sea

Ukrainian and American naval forces are taking part in joint maritime drills dubbed Sea Breeze 2014, which began on Monday in the northwestern part of the Black Sea and will last till September 10.
“Today in the north-west part of the Black Sea, we are beginning the joint Navy exercises of Ukraine and the US, known as ‘Sea Breeze 2014’. The exercises will continue until September 10. The aim is to set up safety measures in areas dangerous to ships,” Colonel Andrey Lysenko, spokesman for Ukraine's National Security Council, told reporters as cited by AP.

Russian strategic bombers reportedly practice nuclear missile strike against US

A pair of Russian bomber jets reportedly practiced cruise missile attacks against targets in the United States last week, according to a report published on Monday in the Washington Free Beacon.
Bill Gertz, a writer for the Beacon, reported that two Russian Tu-95 Bear bombers were tracked flying over the Labrador Sea last week in the northern Atlantic Ocean near Iceland, Greenland and Canada as part of a recent training mission.
“Analysis of the flight indicated the aircraft were conducting practice runs to a pre-determined ‘launch box’ — an optimum point for firing nuclear-armed cruise missiles at US targets,” Gertz wrote, citing unnamed defense officials he described as being familiar with intelligence reports.

‘Mystery’ respiratory virus spreads across several US states

A mysterious respiratory virus, similar to the common cold but far more pernicious, is affecting thousands across 10 US states – hospitalizing hundreds of children, affecting those with asthma or those under the age of 5.
The disease has yet to be officially identified, but officials suspect it is the rare respiratory virus called human enterovirus 68. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said the virus is related to the rhinovirus, which is what causes the common cold.
Enterovirus 68 causes respiratory illness in children. It can attack the central nervous system and cause paralysis or even death.

Israel and New Zealand in diplomatic row over rejected ambassador

Israel refused to accept New Zealand’s new ambassador as he is also an envoy to the Palestinian Authority. However, New Zealand is perplexed over what it sees as a sudden change to the long-standing practice.
New Zealand does not have a separate embassy in Israel as well as many other countries near it. The island nation’s embassy in Turkey has to handle ties with quite a number of nations, including Jordan, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Until recently it was also responsible for New Zealand’s relations with both Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA).
Israel’s Foreign Ministry however refused to allow New Zealand’s new ambassador to the region, Jonathan Curr, to present his credentials to President Reuven Rivlin.

Early risers got an unexpected treat on Sunday in Spain, as a fireball whistled across the country – lighting up the morning sky. It passed through eight regions, traveling the length of the country, leaving a trail of smoke in its wake.
The Spanish Meteor Network confirmed the fireball had passed over the country; however, they did not know where it had originated, the Local reported.

Oregonian arrested for filming SWAT raid (VIDEO)

Footage recently posted to YouTube shows an Oregon man being arrested for filming, or “interfering” with, a militarized police raid across the street from his apartment.
The man - whose YouTube account is Skylow Production - said he was sleeping at his Gresham, Oregon apartment at around 4 a.m. local time on Sept. 2 when he heard the sound of broken glass and flash bang grenades.
“I grabbed my iPad and ran outside as fast as I could to see what was going on,” he said in the video’s description. “There were 5 or more tank/military trucks just cruising through my neighborhood,” which is“right across the street from Mt.Hood Community College.”

British ISIS women form 'sharia police' force – report

British females fighting with the ‘Islamic State’ militant group are operating a ‘sharia police force’ that punishes activities deemed ‘un-Islamic’, a leading think tank says.
Up to 60 women are believed to have joined the Al-Khansaa brigade, an all-women’s branch of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), which is believed to be based in the Syrian city of Raqqa.
The claims were made following research conducted by the US based think tank Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium (TRAC). TRAC says the group was set up to expose people suspected of spying on ISIS by disguising themselves in women’s clothing.

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly attacking a teacher and another pupil with a knife at a school today.
The boy is suspected of launching an attack on a member of staff at The Chase Technology College in Malvern today, as well as a 13-year-old girl.
Pupils told how the boy burst into the classroom wearing his own clothes and a scarf covering his face, with Rambo-style camouflage paint smeared under his eyes.

A 12-year-old thug who bashed a teenager around the head with an iron bar, causing permanent hearing damage, has been sentenced to just three months probation.
Jordan Biggs, 16, was cycling to a relative's home with a friend in Birmingham when they were confronted by a gang of youths, including the younger boy.
As they tried to cycle away, the 12-year old whacked Jordan on the back of the head with the bar, fracturing his skull.
Jordan collapsed minutes later and was rushed to hospital where doctors removed a potentially-deadly blood clot on his brain.
