NYPD deploying extra security around New York City after terrorist attacks in Paris

De Blasio: 'Our hearts are with the people of Paris'

The NYPD is deploying extra security around New York City after terrorist attacks in Paris that have left as many as 120 dead.

The department issued a statement Friday evening noting that the NYPD is "in close touch" with their French police counterparts, as well as the FBI.

As part of an" enhanced counterterrorism overlay" the Counterterrorism Bureau has deployed NYPD Counterterrorism Response Command (CRC) resources as well as the Critical Response Group (SRG) and Hercules Teams to crowded areas around the city, according to the department. Specific deployments at French government locations in New York City were made immediately after the attacks.

French President Francois Hollande announced that he was closing the country's borders and declaring a state of emergency, according to AP. Many of those killed were in a popular concert hall called the Bataclan; others were killed in a restaurant. Earlier Friday, two explosions were heard outside the Stade de France stadium north of Paris.

NYPD Intelligence Bureau Detectives in France are conducting liaison activities to assist the Paris Police in any way possible, according to the NYPD statement.

During a live interview on ABC7, Mayor Bill de Blasio said that he had been briefed by NYPD on the situation.

"Let me just say up front, our hearts are with the people of Paris right now. And I was there in January after those horrible attacks, and we just have to think for a moment about what pain the people of Paris are in right now for this to be happening again in the same year.

"What I can say," de Blasio added, "is NYPD is of course ready, has already deployed resources to protect the French Mission to the U.N. here in New York City, and the French Consulate, and will be focusing on other sites related to France to make sure they are safe. We have our Critical Response Vehicles on high alert right now to be able to move wherever we need them. There are no specific threats directed at New York City that we know of at this time, but we are monitoring very, very closely the situation with our federal partners and obviously with the folks we have in Paris. NYPD has a liaison in Paris, so we’re getting reports directly from our office there. But thank God, at this point, no specific threats directed at New York City."

President Barack Obama called the attacks on Paris an "outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians" and vows to do whatever it takes to help bring the perpetrators to justice, according to AP.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement, Tonight I have directed New York State law enforcement to remain vigilant in the wake of these senseless attacks. The New York State Police, the New York State Intelligence Center and the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services are actively monitoring the situation for any implications in New York State and remain in constant communication with their local and federal partners."

Cuomo has directed that the lights of One World Trade Center’s 408-foot spire to light up blue, white and red Friday evening, and in the days ahead in solidarity with the people of Paris.

New Yorkers are asked to report any suspicious activity to:
