Over a Mushroom Cloud
I was day dreaming while floating over a mushroom cloud I began to think aloud
Just lounging in my favorite shroud
Why are the mad men always allowed
Why are these fools always so proud?
The fallout was like fireworks on the Fourth of July
You could simply walk outside and die
Seems like it's too late to try
Much too late even to cry,
That civilization came to this point in time
Only to be destroyed on the turn of a dime
So many young men cut down in their prime
The end of it all for no reason or rhyme,
Ashes to ashes dust to dust
Evil never stops just like rust
Was self destruction such a must?
The remains swept away by a wind gust,
From atop that mushroom cloud I saw
The Four Horsemen unleashed becoming the new law
I appealed to God and looked on in awe
Would the war cut through humanity like a saw?
I thought I knew you when we first met
It seemed as though we drank from the same goblet
It seemed like our future was set
Now I know the "Black Rain" of regret,
Matters of the heart can transcend
Even the fears of life's end
The spirit can not always mend
What pain the broken heart sends,
The streets are empty now in the ghost town
The silence is like none ever found
No place left to kneel upon the mound
Only a faint memory of her in her gown.
