Please forward this on to help our Canadian soldiers returning home. Many have died and many more are seriously injured.
Canadian disabled veterans living below poverty. This is crime
HALIFAX – NDP Veterans Affairs Critic Peter Stoffer (Sackville-Eastern Shore) wants the Conservative government to allocate more financial and human resources in the upcoming federal budget for disabled veterans, military personnel, and their families. Stoffer was joined by Megan Leslie (Halifax), Nova Scotia NDP Leader Darrell Dexter, as well as Bill Maguire, a director of the Operational Stress Service Injury Support (OSSIS) centre in Halifax, and Dr. Heather MacKinnon (Ret’d Lieutenant Commander), a medical doctor specializing in veterans’ care.
“Now is the time to re-open the two year old Veterans Charter and make improvements,” said Stoffer. “Young veterans with high levels of disability and their families are dealing with financial hardship and are struggling through a system of bureaucratic red tape.”
Stoffer pointed out that the federal government offers a maximum lump sum payment of $250,000 to its most severely disabled soldiers whereas Britain recently doubled its compensation to wounded soldiers to $855,000 US. In addition to receiving a lump sum payment, injured soldiers in Britain with a high level of disability are also entitled to a lifetime monthly disability payments. Compared to Canada, Australia also provides a more developed budget to care for its veterans and their families.
Under the new Veterans Charter, Canada eliminated monthly disability pension payments for modern day veterans in lieu of a one-time only lump sum benefit.
“Quite frankly, men and women who have been injured while serving their country deserve to be treated fairly,” said Dexter. “The financial compensation they receive now is not enough to pay for a lifetime of medical expenses and to provide for their family. In fact, many disabled veterans and their families are living at or below the poverty line.”
Stoffer also pointed to a report published last February by researchers at the University of Alberta that found that families who care for seriously disabled, younger veterans are at a “substantially higher risk of poor financial, social and health outcomes than any other group of caregivers.”
“Three and a half years ago, when this new legislation passed, Minister Thompson said the Charter was a ‘living document’ and that they would improve it as required. Now is the time, in advance of the upcoming federal budget, to make those changes,” said Leslie
Lets face reality we were tricked in to a false war, and foreign Oil companies make billions.
If I had it my way oil companies would be 100% owned by the Canadian citizens in Canada, and all profits would work to better Canada, not be given away like they are now, because now we only make 25 cents a barrel of oil.
Some serious changes have occurred in Canada, we are being sold of to a foreign Elite Company. If you have had enough voice your opinion to make changes.
Oil companies need to pay for our soldiers. Like any high risk job. 1 million dollars if sent to war, and 1 million a year for the rest of their life, and passed to their family if killed or injured.
Or better we don’t go to war to help steal other countries resources for the elite.
We attack other countries for them with the cost of our children being killed or injured, and the ones that survive live with this the rest of their lives.
Iraq, Afganistan, is just an example of how they do business. Iraq people want to be able to be in control of their own resources.
Sure don't see the Elite corporations helping the poor in africa as they say they are helping the Iraq and Afgan citizens. Good question. They already helped them, can't you see the poverty, disease, and the endless killing and chaos in africa.
Soon the Elite will have to attack Iran, again with our children for their capital gain, because they will not give their resources away to the Elite corporations of a few.
Why do we not follow Switzerland, Sweden, they live neutral so can we.
Stop paying taxes, stand together and end this corruption once and for all.
If our oil was owned by us, it could pay for health care, schools, social programs, and so much more.
Why should Canadian tax payers front the bill when oil companies make billions and billions of dollars profit and this money leaves our country.
Note: All the oil companies are owned by the same people, just under different company names to hide their idenity.
Reality check everyone. Time for change, time for Canadians to look after Canadians. Some Government officials are selling us of.
Look at the dirty practices that Harper has done selling of assets, we have to rent back for the next 25 years.
Love to get into this business buy below market value, and rent it back to Canadian tax payers, what a sweet deal. We need to take all this back that was stolen from us, and prosecute them for treason.
B.C. Ferry Corporation, along with $330 million in public assets, was handed over (Given away) to a private company called British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. (How can any of you put up with treason) Victoria didn't just hire a private management firm. The government gave away the ferry corporation to a company owned by the same people mentioned above. Yes the oil companies, but under a different name.
Everything is all just so cheery now.
Premier Gordon Campbell himself says that the weeklong disruption we all suffered because of the ferry strike is a thing we will never again have to endure. Of course it won’t because our BC Ferries workers have no rights to strike, for fair pay, for anything.
Like hell.
The Canadian-owned B.C. Ferry Corporation, along with $330 million in public assets, was handed over to a private company called British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. Victoria didn't just hire a private management firm. The government gave away the ferry corporation.
If you don't know about this, don't be too hard on yourself. Did I mention the MEDIA is also owned by them, you think their going to let you know of their dirty work to steal from you? Most British Columbians don't realize it's happened
But even now, how many British Columbians realize that within five years, we have also had to "subsidized" ferry routes with more of our Canadian tax dollars. How many people realize that 24 of the ferry system's 26 routes are subsidized?
Here's a guy whose qualifications for the job of running our ferry fleet appear to consist of the part he played in the dismemberment of a multinational corporation that racked up $3.3 billion in debt before it declared bankruptcy two years ago, leaving investors with $250 million in losses and $45 million in unpaid taxes.
In other words, the relevant talents of this guy that the appointees have hired to run B.C.'s ferry fleet appear to lie mainly in breaking up and selling off a major transportation company's assets.
We're in this mess because of a scandal that must make us get of your ass and charge these individuals for treason against Canada.
Our ferries have been stolen from us and so much more. We must take them back.
About time we brought our Canadian soldiers home to defend our rights, as the battle field is right here on your door step.
Note: Guns laws were established so Canadians in advance for this take over so Canadians could not defend themselves or their rights. They told us it was to stop the criminals from having guns. Who are the criminals? We all know who they are.
