Pro-gun Democrats oppose new assault weapon ban

WASHINGTON -- Sixty-five House Democrats said Wednesday that they would oppose any attempt by the Obama administration to revive a ban on military-style weapons that President Bill Clinton signed into law in 1994 and President George W. Bush let expire.

The pro-gun Democrats, led by Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., wrote Attorney General Eric Holder that they would "actively oppose any effort to reinstate the 1994 ban, or to pass any similar law."

They urged the administration to avoid a "long and divisive fight over a gun control issue" at a time when Washington needs to concentrate on the economic crisis.

The House letter came a day after Montana's two Democratic senators, Max Baucus and Jon Tester, wrote a similar letter to Holder saying the Justice Department should enforce existing laws before considering new gun ownership restrictions. "We will strongly oppose any legislation that will infringe upon the rights of individual gun owners," they said.

Most Dempublicans and Republicrats are so caught up in the left right phalicy that they don't know what their parties really stand for or against. We need to elect people regardless of their party affiliation that will honor the oath of office and "protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America" and stand for national soverignty.

Yep, even if I was anti-gun I would be smart enough to know that it's a horribly bad idea to pick and choose which parts of the bill of rights you are going to defend no matter how you feel about individual portions of it.

I'm no democrat but no republican either. I do however live in one of the most democratic leaning cities in America and a large number of the democratic voters I know are armed to the teeth, and while they may not fight against gun control as fervently as many republicans, they are certainly not for it.

Good! The number of democrats that believe in gun control is rather small in my experience but they are almost all the most irrational and vocal tree hugging zombie types amongst the party - the left wing's analogue to right wingers who think that anyone who actually USES the first amendment should be rounded up and shot.
