Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change…and Mayan worshipper
One of the more alarming proposals coming out of the recent Cancun Climate Conference comes from Bolivia, whose delegates want climate deniers charged with ecocide.
According to British lawyer Polly Higgins, Ecocide is:
“extensive destruction, damage to or loss of ecosystem(s) of a given territory […] to such an extent that peaceful enjoyment by the
inhabitants of that territory has been severely diminished”.
The Bolivian delegation with support from Higgins and other nations are calling for the creation of a climate tribunal to punish countries that do not work toward the reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions.
Higgins called for Ecocide to become the fifth “crime against peace,” alongside genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression. She fantastically claimed the Earth was “enslaved” by industrialization.
While Higgins works with the Bolivian government in drawing up the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth. (that’s literally what they call it). Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, opened her speech with a prayer to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the moon.
