Pursuit of the Skin
False promises falling from the sky
Not much reason for trust between you and I
Not the day of honesty but the day of the sly
What am I, just a bewildered guy?
Living alone against my will
Frankly, not a lot of thrills
Lamenting over all those past spills
They’re dying left and right from the pills,
Just trying to find an illusion I can slip into
The color of the ocean will always remain blue
Putting the past behind me because of you
Replacing lost love not like shopping for someone new,
Sorry if I don’t enjoy the view
Perhaps it’s something I’m just not accustomed to
Living a life that’s been rendered askew
Rejection is what you can expect right on cue,
To look in the mirror and smile
Without feeling like you’re in exile
Like scrolling through all the fake profiles
And you wonder why I’m a cynic in denial,
God made woman your companion
Yet, there’s this communication canyon
She prefers her crystalline mansion
Between the two no room for expansion,
An illusion I can melt within
Seeing the truth seems such a sin
With so many mesmerized and taken in
The soul crushing pursuit of the skin.
