my sunday morning rant,
I went to visit my kids this week. While they sat at the picnic table I took
my usual after eating nap.
As I seemed to doze off in a blissful sleep, the children
started to discuss funeral plans for when I depart.
One wanted to spend Three hundred dollars for a coffin, a second thought a
plain wooden box would do, and the third was even ready to dump my
remains into a paper sack. All agreed there was no reason to spend much
money, as I would never know the difference.
I stirred. Having heard every word, I thought it was time to set the
record straight. "Children," I said, "I've never told you this and
never wanted to, but I can't go to my final resting place with this
burden. My darling children, your mother and I were never married."
As we enter the month of Av we intensify our traditional mourning for the Holy Temple, but are we really in touch with what we are mourning for? Are we ready...
