Reaching out to Those who Fled
If you think life is passing you by it probably is
It’s not like you had to figure it out on a quiz
I’s not like you were a real whiz
Nor do you have the notoriety of showbiz,
It’s always about what do you have to give
All the vampires who don’t really live
All those betrayals you have to forgive
Not much in this life is that commemorative,
When they’re done with you and gone
They simply move on
The abandoned piper at the gates of dawn
Your corpse conveniently deposited upon the lawn,
You can’t believe how easily they pass you by
Like some pie in the sky
Family, friends, even private eyes
You’d settle for a Good Samaritan in disguise,
Like the wind rushing by in a storm
Betrayal is now the new norm
My little enchantress was in such good form
Your chances feel like being trapped in a swarm,
Maybe disappear into the Pacific Northwest
Seeing if you can pass the survivor’s test
Grizzly bears Sasquatch you know the rest
The unattainable legacy of the Tempest,
Those waking hours lying in bed
Waking up in a state of dread
Once again, the past went to your head
Reaching out to those who simply fled,
Walking down that winding road to fate
You must have been much too late
A slippery slope leading to heaven’s gate
Arisen from a cave sealed by a disk of slate.
