Road to Oblivion
Where has the joy of togetherness gone?
Can no longer find it these days with a yawn
The bleakness on the road to oblivion I’m on
Just trying to get a few minutes of sleep before dawn,
Thought love would cure all as I walked on that road
Too many out there with brains squirming like a toad
The weight of Karma carrying that heavy load
Everyone seeking that existential a la mode,
The gates before me of knowledge and ignorant bliss
So many have fallen to the fate of the serpent’s hiss
What I wouldn’t do for the sake of a loving kiss
Death can come as a result of Gorillas in the mist,
A fire in the sky came down that wicked the night
The unknown reached out snatching reason in flight
The answers to many of these mysteries out of sight
The monstrosity of abduction taking a mighty bite,
Kneeling on the threshold of a compromised land
At one time right and wrong were easily within hand
But evil took its toll well thought out and planned
The forces of good at times seem outmanned,
How could you do what you did to me?
Guess I was just a target of opportunity
Pitfalls await in what used to be the land of the free
I’ll gladly trade you a disaster for one cup of tea,
Upon this road to oblivion upon which I walk
Unpredictable and yet as steady as a rock
When confused I must pause and take stock
Delusional birds of a feather oh how they flock.
