Ron Paul supporters: Now the revolution begins

Ron Paul's army of volunteer supporters can decide the Republican primaries in Iowa, accounting for close battle between three candidates

15:41, 03 January 2012 (Updated time: 15:47, Jan 03 2012) | Mikkel Selin

DES MOINES (ekstrabladet.dk): Battle Ready militia men, freedom-hungry minimal State activists and opponents of war that requires all U.S. troops pulled back from abroad.
Ron Paul supporters are a diverse group, but a few hours before the voting premises opens in Iowa feel that victory is within reach.
- We work around the clock. There is much at stake, and Tuesday we are writing history. Now begins the revolution, said David White, who distributes notes fly at an election meeting in Des Moines.
Volunteer campaign the likes of the 55-year-old pest inspector explains that Ron Paul is at the forefront of the Republican primary election.
David White packed in last week's Chevy Malibu and drove the 1500 miles from Nelson County, Virginia to Iowa to help the ultra-liberal congressman in the nomination race. White believes that there is much at stake.
- Ron Paul is the only one that differs from the other candidates. He is the only one who can save us from this economic mess, says David White to ekstrabladet.dk.

Border crossers
Militia man Robert Ussery took a break from patrol of Iowa boundaries to support Ron Paul.
- He is the only candidate who will protect our borders and stop illegal immigration, said Robert Ussery, director of border defenses Iowa Minutemen.
David White and Robert Ussery is not alone. Hundreds of Ron Paul supporters have flocked to Iowa, which holds the first - and symbolic importance - vote in the Republican primaries.
The winner will be chosen to fall as the Republican presidential candidate and will challenge Democrat Barack Obama in the presidential election in November.

Fears Ron Paul
Chicago resident Rick Nova took the Grayhound bus to Iowa and stay overnight in a Ron Paul campaign local. The many badges on his colorful vest and top hat, leave no doubt about his political leanings.
Rick Nova believe that the American media and the Republican Party for too long has ignored Ron Paul. They fear the candidate's antiwar message, says Nova.
- The media in the U.S. is owned by a handful of companies that also make money on warfare. Therefore, they fear Ron Paul's message, he says.
Ron Paul, 76, lies in the polls in a statistical dead heat with Mitt Romney wealthy sculptor, who has long been the favorite to win the Republican nomination. The right of religious ex-Senator Rick Santorum is in third place in Iowa.

Ron Paul is raging against the dictatorship State USA
Despite his 76 years is Ron Paul the young candidate in the Republican primary election in the U.S.
18:07, 07 January 2012 | Mikkel Selin

Nashua (ekstrabladet.dk): Ron Paul, the ultra-liberal Republican presidential candidate warns that the U.S. is about to evolve into a totalitarian state where the individual's constitutional rights violated.
- It's a dictatorship when one person (the U.S. president, Ed.) May require a U.S. citizen executed without charge or trial.
- Why have we become so afraid of letting people keep their rights, ask Ron Paul with reference to the assassination of the American-born terrorist leader Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen.
After a few days off at home in Texas, Ron Paul landed in New Hampshire, where he will try to close the gap to front-runner Mitt Romney.
The 76-year-old congressman is full of energy and attack like when he meets the approximately 700 youthful supporters in Nashua Airport in southern New Hampshire.
- Freedom is popular, Congress finds the man with a grin, as he is greeted by a massive roar of cheers and a sea of waving Ron Paul banners.

Obama cheated the young
New Hampshire holds primary elections on Tuesday, and Ron Paul's young supporters are convinced that their candidate will make a good figure.
The young people feel they were deceived by Barack Obama. Now they understand that he is just another slippery politician. You can not say about Ron Paul.
- He is a inspiring and never compromise with his views and principles. He dares to challenge the powerful vested interests, says Joe Smith, a 20-year-old student with impressive sideburns.

Throwing bombs
Ron Paul's message is about freedom and accountability. He wants to make drastic cuts in public sector and pull all U.S. troops home from abroad.
We must understand that it is better for us if we look after ourselves instead of throwing bombs in the minds of others, he says, referring to the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
- War is expensive, costing many lives - and there is no victory! We need to pull troops home from abroad, he says.

First meeting with Paul
It is the first time Ralph Gramazio, a 23-year-old driver involved in an election with Ron Paul. He is thrilled.
It's a fantastic experience. He is our last chance, says Ralph Gramazio, who are attracted to Ron Paul's antiwar message.
- Think about how many people have been killed to no avail, says Ralph Gramazio to be out and vote doorbell for the candidate.

Republicans "bite each others flesh" in televised debate
Politiken.dk in America: Mitt Romney may be most pleased after major televised debate between Republican presidential candidates.

By Thomas Berndt, Manchester, New Hampshire

Hard personal attacks flew through the air from the first whistle, when the six Republican presidential candidates crashed together in a televised debate Sunday night to Danish time.

If you believe everything that was said in the debate, several of the candidates dishonest or ignorant - or both.

Big favorites for the overall victory, ex-Governor Mitt Romney had to take a few beats, but the biggest blow exchange took place between his challengers. Therefore he feels probably a step closer to becoming the party's candidate, who must fight against President Barack Obama.

Corrupt and serial fraudster
The evening's most aggressive man was Congressman Ron Paul, who is number two in the polls in New Hampshire, where voters must vote on Tuesday.

Shortly before the debate was Ron Paul published a video in which he accused Rick Santorum - which rises in measurements - to be 'corrupt' and 'serial fraudster'.

The host asked if Ron Paul would repeat the attack face to face. He hesitated, but referred to a study that pointed to Santorum as one of the most corrupt in Washington.

When his microphone suddenly uttered a shriek, Santorum was quick.

"They caught you in not telling the truth, Ron," he said, and received great laughter from the audience in the hall at the University of Manchester, New Hampshire.

A Chickenhawk
Ron Paul also went into bacon on Newt Gingrich - the former chairman of the House of Representatives.

Paul has frequently called Gingrich a 'Chickenhawk' because he leads a tough foreign policy without ever having been in the military.

"People who have had three or four opportunities to serve in the military without doing it, have no right to send other people's sons to war," he argued.

"Dr. Paul has extensive experience of saying things that are inaccurate and untrue ", said Gingrich answers.

New Hard video
Tonight's harshest attacks on Mitt Romney came from outside. Earlier in the day had a group supporting Newt Gingrich, announced that it will publish a video attacking Romney for his time as director of an investment firm.

Romney himself is proud to have created a series of successful companies, according to the candidate has provided work for over 100,000 people. His critics, however, feel that he has founded his great fortune to sack people.

One of tonight's moderators quoted the new video that Romney has a "story of greed '.

Gingrich said he had not seen the video, but he pointed out that it was based on an article in The New York Times.

"I think it is reasonable to discuss whether people got better or worse by the type of investment," said the former chairman of the House of Representatives.

Romney followed the fights from the middle
More violent attacks became so nor Mitt Romney. Instead he stood midway between Ron Paul and Rick Santorum and could very closely follow how they tried to peel the icing on each other.

The former governor would therefore still appear to rule against his party's nomination.

After the tough start to the debate did tempers himself.

Issues like the war in Afghanistan, job creation and the relationship with China could certainly good will disagree about, but the attacks became less personal.

One recurring topic was which of the six suit-clad gentlemen who would be the best leader. Viewers were - not surprisingly - exactly six different bids.

Elections in America: At Java Joe's in Des Moines

03. January 2012 06.22

They usually serve coffee and related discussion on Java Joe's in Des Moines, Iowa. Yesterday was the debate with their coffee.

Java Joe's is a small hot spot in the winds blew and rebuilt downtown Des Moines. A political debate where broadcaster NBC rent space when there are elections in Iowa.
This is where the political animals gather - debating and being interviewed, while voters hurries further out in the cold. And it was there, David Yepsen would meet for an interview when he was done with NBC.
A floating selection
David Yepsen is the longstanding political editor of the Des Moines Register, which has now received a professorship at "Southern Illinois University," a political pundit who has laid out the political text in Iowa for decades - and often have been right.
David Yepsen put my hand up and greet. "Good evening" it is in Danish. The ancestors are Danish. And then comes his political messages in mid western U.S., while guests control the in and out between media celebrities on their way to and from the NBC studio at the end of the café.
- This choice reflects what happens in the U.S. currently. The choice among Republicans is very fluid. The voters are undecided. They want answers. The fight over which country should move forward. The debate on how the debt will be paid - especially if you can not raise taxes. And they want to win - win over President Obama said David Yepsen.
- And Romney is the favorite - but statistically, his lead in the margin of error.
David Yepsen is agreed that the Republican Party is in conflict with itself. The struggle is between the activists from the right wing, which breathes new life into the party and so the more moderate, who would rather win than Obama - almost any cost.
- But what about Ron Paul? I ask. - What will happen to the party if he wins, or become number two?
Ron Paul is the 76-year-old Texan, member of the House of Representatives who are more libertarian than Republican. He will pull the U.S. back from the world, let Iran get nuclear weapons, stop military aid to Israel and make other heretical actions that make him uvælgelig for the American majority.
And at home he will include abolish the Federal reserve bank, legalize drugs - apart from the recital that prohibition is misplaced government intervention in the individual's right to decide for themselves. If you want to die from drug abuse, one must own it.
- The Republican Party fighting to deal with Ron Paul. But party leaders and the party can not get around him and his opinions. His isolationism is debated in the U.S.. It is part of the agenda - after the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many Americans would have solved the problems here before we do it abroad. And the political leaders need to consider his message, said David Yepsen.

Surprises for election
I caught the former chairman of the U.S. Republican party, Michael Steele in the door to Java Joe's. He is convinced that we get surprises Tuesday night. There will be more voters than the wise predicts. And the results will surprise.
- Look at Rick Santatorum says Michael Steele - the conservative and religious ex-senator from Pennsylvania who was shot in the polls after months of languishing, where he was written off.
- It reflects the dynamics of grass roots and up, played out in this election, a dynamic that many ignore - but I am convinced that they are wrong.
And he picks up where David Yepsen joined with Ron Paul.
- His position in the polls is impressive. He is well organized. Disciplined - and his campaign will have many up from the sofas.

Earnings tomorrow night
And so it stays - at Java Joe's. Political debates about process, about why Iowa is important as the first state in this long election campaign - while the hoses coffee, tea, snacks, cakes and much more over the counter. While the Chris Mathews - hard hitting and high-sounding political presenter for MSNBC - hold court between shots.
And while everyone waits for the last day, the results tomorrow night - on the interpretation of results, and then on the flight on Wednesday night to New Hampshire in New England up in the north - to the next stop on the political journey through an America where voters are deeply divided, where the ideological divide between Republicans and Democrats are deep abyss - and where Americans are looking for the way back or forward to new greatness.
