GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul has spoken in detail about his campaign going into the final hurdle before the Iowa caucus in three weeks time.

Speaking with the Alex Jones Show yesterday, Paul emphasized that it is now crunch time and that his entire campaign rests on the events of the next few days.

“The big thing is this next three weeks.” Paul said. “You know how much energy we’ve put into Iowa, because it offers an opportunity. It’s a smaller state, you can meet a lot of people and you can do direct mail. We’ve done our very very best, we think we’re in a good position, but we’re going to work right up until the caucuses occur on the 3rd, and of course the primary in New Hampshire on the 10th.”

The latest poll to emerge from Iowa shows Paul at 21%, just one point behind Newt Gingrich .

The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling, found weakening support for Gingrich among tea partiers, and a dramatic rise in Paul’s favorability rating.

The Texas Congressman believes he has a distinct advantage over the other candidates owing to his expansive grass roots support base.

“It’s unbelievable how much volunteer work we’re getting” Paul noted. “There’s so much work going on outside of the campaign. It’s so fantastic, so I believe that could be our secret weapon.”

“The other candidates are a little less aggressive. They are more aggressive against each other than they are against me because I think they know the significance of the numbers of our people.” Paul continued.

“And they are not going out of their way to offend. They are being a lot more cautious because they know our percentages are much higher and we can play a significant role.”

While the Congressman repeated his statement about both Gingrich and Romney having to defend themselves for being too similar to Obama, he also explained that should he succeed in Iowa and New Hampshire, he may begin to shift strategy to focus more on competing with the incumbent president.

“I should be more bi-partisan and criticize Obama as much as I criticize some of the things Republicans have done over the years as well.” Paul told listeners.

“I think that is good strategy because I wish we had more honest polling with my name against Obama, because you know we appeal to a lot of independents and even some of the more sensible and honest liberals, the progressives that are anti-war.” he said.

“It’s a mixed bag, politically I think he’s very good and he deserves it and ultimately that is who you have to run against, but in the primary I’m not running against him and I also like to be as up front as possible when it comes to analyzing our tragedies in foreign policy and monetary policy. They’ve been going on for a long time and it’s both parties.” Paul added.

The Congressman also spoke of the ongoing media bias against his campaign, noting “if Newt wins in Iowa then he’s a shoe in for the whole nomination, but if I win it’s a total fluke and I’m just a trouble maker and a spoiler!”

“We still have to prove ourselves under the circumstances with the disadvantages within the mainstream media.” Paul said. “But we know where we stand and we know what we have to overcome.”

“I think we’re doing a very good job on this … There is a limit to how much they can spin it. Even when they only give me 90 seconds, we’ve been able to turn that around and turn it into a positive.”

“The only way we can ultimately over come that is success in Iowa. If we do really well there they are going to have a lot harder time doing that to us.”
