Sacred Stones
Every king needs a queen to round out his day
Another voice when the world’s gone astray
A kindred spirit to take him away
Perhaps to even agree with what he might say,
Perhaps just to hang around
When he’s got a tarnished crown
When things are looking low down
A love who will take him homeward bound,
But for now in a troubled kingdom he owns
Maybe she can warm his tired bones
Help the king figure out all the unknowns
Despite his snarls and groans,
Of course this is only a fantasy
A king today would have to order a decree
It would take the premonition of a visionary
For the feminists have poisoned all the revelry,
The king is of no matter today
Too many queens have run away
The king must give up his crown and pay
Black Nights are in demand anyway,
It seems the court jesters own the night
While all the queen wants to do is fight
The king in turmoil even despite
His compassionate rule is out of sight,
Like King Arthur’s legendary court
The queen was a rather adulteress sort
Always with a disrespectful retort
The king has nothing with which to resort,
Sitting on a meaningless throne
He’s become a benign symbol all his own
A selfish queen, the king she has outgrown
Unlike the days of old and sacred stones.
