Searching For Eternity
Wanted it to last forever something I could trust
A little more than friendship and lust
You want it all to seem so just
Not necessarily like California or bust,
Every woman needs a man
And he’s supposed to do the best he can
Some of them gave up and ran
That wasn’t in the universal plan,
Guess I lost to eternity
It felt so good it felt so free
The illusion of milk and honey
May seem grim but it’s also funny,
I was searching for eternity
Thought I saw it in your eyes you see
But it was a shipwreck on the way to destiny
You better just let nature be,
Sometimes life can be a drag
You’re stuck in a wet paper bag
When I was little played a game of freeze tag
Now I’m watching fools burn our nation’s flag,
Reached out to you in the middle of the night
My chest was feeling kind of tight
Trying to separate the wrong from the right
It seemed my God was out of sight,
It’s just not time to die
Even when all the colors run dry
Even when the earth meets with the sky
Even when I hear her cry.
