In North Carolina, the areas around Asheville were socked by as much as six inches of snow Saturday, and 2-and-a-half inches were observed in Boone. In South Carolina, a couple of inches was enough to down power lines, the Weather Channel reported. In Tennessee, almost 13 inches of snow fell near Hartford, a mountainous area 3,400 feet above sea level, and several roads were shut down in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Jon Erdman, a senior meteorologist with The Weather Channel, said that accumulations were likely this weekend in the Appalachians from West Virginia to east Tennessee, western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina and northern New England. "A few areas of the Appalachians may pick up over 6 inches of snow," he added. "Totals over 12 inches are possible in parts of Maine." http://www.nbcnews.com/news/weather/snow-blankets-parts-south-winte...
