Maybe we should make masks out of mosquito nets and wear them when we are ‘required’ to
Clem writes – I went to Haymans electrical this morning at about 12:31 and was looking at the goods on the shelves. A lady who worked there was standing next to me. I asked her about electrical cabinets which I had rang up about. She said I have to wear a mask in here. I said I have a medical exemption so I do not have to wear a mask. She turned to the customer service desk where another lady was ready to serve customers. I walked over to her saying that I have a medical exemption and handed her the piece of paper. She refused to accept it. and went to get her boss. The boss arrived and said I have to wear a mask. I said I have a medical exemption and handed him the piece of paper and said read it. He refused to accept it. He said I am asking you to leave the premises. I asked for his name – (Dougal somebody). I asked for a pen so I could write it down. He said – no I am asking you to leave. I said you cannot refuse me service. He said yes I can, I can ask anyone to leave. So I left.
At about 12:45 I went to Ideal Electrical in Ipswich and entered the back part of the store where no one was and started looking for what I needed. Someone approached me saying I have to be wearing a mask. I told him I have a medical exemption and handed him the paper. He took it briefly and said it does not have a doctor’s signature. I said it does not need to. He said where did you get this. I said I have someone who does research. He asked me to go wait outside. I waited outside for a few minutes and he returned with the paper saying it is not signed by a doctor and will not accept it. So I went away.
At about 13:40 I went to the butcher at Rosewood and ordered lamb chops. All the staff were wearing masks. The shop front had only one person and he served me asking no questions.
At about 13:50 I went into IGA supermarket at Rosewood and as I was walking through the door was approached by a young lady working there saying to you you need to be wearing a mask inside here. I said will you accept my medical exemption and pulled out the printed paper from my pocket. She read it and said – looks ok to me and apologised for stopping me. I said it’s all good. I was the only person not wearing a mask but I could sense an uneasiness from everyone I saw. I got my shopping done as quickly as possible and went out the checkout manned by the same lady – hoping I would not be confronted by someone else and have a showdown.
People are terrified, not so much of the virus, but of being seen to not conform and to not lose their license to operate a business. I think they are living under the assumption that the medical authorities in concert with the government are the ones to decide what is safe for everyone and how dare anyone think for themselves.
Friends – this is WAR – the forcing of masks is the front line. If that battle is lost by us the next stage of the battle begins.
Do you have any ideas on how to be more effective in this confrontation?
I also think we should make masks out of mosquito nets and wear them when we are ‘required’ to. No one can say that we are not wearing a mask. If they complain, we can point out that it is just as effective at stopping the spread of the virus as any other mask and it gives enhanced breathing capability which is a down side to most other poor quality masks which exasperate breathing health.
