Soldiers to Patrol Bars, Restaurants in New York State

Drum Plans 'Courtesy Patrols' Of Bars, Restaurants

Fort Drum is going to start sending out two person "courtesy patrols" to local bars and restaurants several nights a week.

The patrols will target fights, drinking and driving and other
misbehavior.

Each “courtesy patrol” will consist of an officer, and a senior
non-commissioned officer. Several patrols will operate each Thursday

through Sunday from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., effective immediately.

The patrols will be on the lookout for "things that don't emulate Army values," said Julie Cupernall, Fort Drum spokeswoman.

That includes fighting and "reminding soldiers that there are many, many alternatives to drinking and driving" Cupernall said.

The patrols will stop soldiers from getting behind the wheel if they have had too much to drink, Cupernall said. "They will not
allow that situation to occur."

However, if local police are involved the patrols "will not interfere but will offer assistance."

Fort Drum already does things like pay the taxi fare for soldiers who have had too much to drink and need to get back to post.

"Essentially," according to a statement from Drum, "the patrol’s aim is to be a constant reminder to soldiers about their
responsibility to live their lives to a high standard of discipline and
conduct while out in the community."

Courtesy patrol soldiers will be easily recognizable. The soldiers will be in their dress uniform and will have an identifiable arm badge.

I agree Nikki, but today with the Police State we are in, while the Military is Patrolling, they should only be able to handle Military Personal! We can't stop this yet, but we will! I do feel there will be a big charge back to the Constitution! Hopefully without violence! In the meantime if they are going to be allowed to patrol our cities, then they should only have jurisdiction over military personal!

Billy, I can understand these patrols on foreign soil but they should not be doing this domestically. I think the purpose it to get the civilian citizens used to seeing the patrols and to accept it.
We're probably the first American generation to realize that our children and grandchildren will not have the freedom and prosperity that we had. I worry about this too since my child is only a teenager.

When I was in the Marines in the 70's and was set over to Japan Mainland during my third year, we did Town Patrols in IwaKuni every night! But we could only intervene if military personal was involved! Otherwise it was up to the Japanese National Police to take care of their own town! I was an MP four years, and did traffic stops, dui arrests, and the worst call to go on a domestic disturbance call! We did everything that they do in the civil world! We also had a ton of paperwork to do!
But the Military in any State, should only be involved in Military Personal and that it, unless a felony is being committed in his presents! But those days are gone with this Police State we are in, and the demise of the Posse Comitatus Act! I fear for our Children and our Grandchildren, Not only do we have to worry about there safety at home. Now we have to worry about the Government being just as bad as every criminal out there! And to have to worry if we can even guarantee that they will have freedom when they get older, and we have left this earth! I don't care what they do to me, but I do care what they will be doing to my Kids and their Kids!
