Something Happened
I used to be such a sentimental man
So very sentimental
So vulnerable and easily touched
Hanging on way too much,
Then the nightmares of the world set in
The fool I was waiting for it all to begin
Foolishly I played a game not seeing the sin
All night long wondering where you’d been,
Then something happened to me
Now I can never be free,
To be that sentimental again
Like an old egg laying hen
Of no use now only then
Remembering way back when,
So easily touched by feelings of love
Delusions and the stuff dreams are made of
It was all the perfect set up
She poured me the Hemlock from a cup,
Awakening it seems from the dead
Realizing all the lies that I’d been fed
What I thought was true blue was really red
The only love really shared was in my head,
Something had happened to me
Now I can never be free,
Now there’s a shadow in the mirror
It doesn’t even look familiar
As if carved from a tomb of stone
This is the price of being alone,
When nightmares of the world intervene
Upon your perfect little dream
The dream that you thought was love
No more than a vapor of mist from above.
