It’s not the fact that Yellowstone National Park sits atop a super volcano that hasn’t erupted in centuries and that seismic readings indicate disturbing outcomes. It’s not that the re-introduction of wild wolves into the park acreage has created newfound chaos for many animals’ native to the park. However, there is something else even more threatening that has occurred many times over, and the government is not informing us about it.

The year is 1987. The US is emerging from the worst recession since the Great Depression. A string of Savings and Loans have gone bankrupt and the federal government has used 5 billion in US tax dollars to bailout failed mortgage loan lenders, but there’s something in Yellowstone that is beyond conventional explanation. It all begins as a group of campers are prepared for a weekend of relaxation, camp fires, and being in harmony with nature. The first day is coming to a close and night has fallen. In the endless blanket of stars above something out of the ordinary catches their attention!

A fiery streak cuts through the darkened sky leaving the spectators spellbound. It travels on a flat horizontal trajectory so it can’t be a meteor! However, suddenly the unknown object drops to the ground just over the horizon and a ball of orange fire blossoms into the night air! Stunned and yet curious, one of the couples decides to hop in their jeep and see what’s going on. Maybe a plane crash, maybe someone’s hurt and in distress! They will have to navigate through a series of narrow roads that are not lit with street lamps. The going is hazardous through these winding access roads. They occasionally  see glimpses of a fiery mass through the trees as they make their way to the mysterious event!

Once they arrive, they are greeted by a fantastic sight! What appears to be a large metallic disk about 30 to 40 yards wide! It is intact but appears to be scorched and red hot! There is a gouge carved out of the asphalt road surface that it apparently grazed over before coming to a stop on the land just beyond the road shoulder. They notice a strange humming sound emanating from the grounded object that appears to penetrating the whole environment! Both of them emerge from their vehicle but not before park rangers, local police, and men in what appear to be contamination suits are poising themselves around the bizarre landed structure. Now these men are placing rods in the ground and some kind of reflectors pointed at the disk!

A policeman instructs the couple to go back in their vehicle for their own safety, so they re-enter their Jeep. They remain intently watching for some time. Suddenly, a large unmarked SUV pulls up, and two men dressed in black identifying themselves as FBI agents emerge and appear to take charge of the situation. A cluster of law enforcement vehicles encircles the crash site! The area is now thoroughly cordoned off. A line of traffic is forming from the direction that couple had arrived from. Either they are onlookers or those working the night shift who are now hung up in traffic.

The two men dressed in black are now speaking to the officer who had told them to go back to their Jeep. They can overhear the conversation, “Were they here when you people arrived? Did they take any photos?”

The two agents approached the Jeep where the couple sat. “You are now not permitted to tell anyone about what you’ve seen here tonight! Do you understand?”

By this time the couple have become nervous and suspecting that they might receive more unwanted scrutiny than they are prepared for. “Are we free to leave now? We were just camping from over the horizon, saw this thing come down, and came here to see of anyone was hurt or needed help. That’s all.”

“You’re free to leave, but remember you are under strict orders now not to discuss what you’ve witnessed here!” One of the agents shot back. “If you do, you can expect a visit from investigators. Is that understood?”

“Yes, Sir.” The husband responds and starts up his Jeep to vacate the area.

Upon returning to the camp site, they are met by curious fellow campers, but can only vaguely tell them what they saw, afraid of being accused of violating their order for secrecy. They find out something even more disturbing is afoot. There has been the sighting of a woman among the campers who disappeared, but a witness says they saw a woman drawn up into the air and into a disk-shaped aerial vehicle as it hovered an hour after the man and woman had left the camp to see what had happened at the crash site! Needless to say, what was going to be a blissful holiday for camping has ended in an unsettling mystery!

Days later the husband, curious over what happened to the crash site, the object, and whatever the apparent operation was trying to accomplish takes a drive back out. He and his wife don’t live far away in a neighboring little town they both work and live in. He drives down the same road as before. He then comes to a barricade and can see further on the opposite side that another such barrier is completely blocking the road in both directions. The gouge cutting through the road is still there. Apparently, the mysterious object has not been hauled off yet, but it has been dragged out of sight and hidden! He can see drag marks on the forest floor. He makes a turn around to quickly exit the area not wanting to attract any more attention.

This incident has many similarities to the Kecksburg, Pennsylvania crash recovery in 1965 that involved a large US Army crash recovery after a similar late-night sighting of an object some mistook for a meteor until a ground fire resulted when it came down. A local radio reporter who was covering the event was killed while investigating the incident, but little was uncovered on the details. The object was seen to have been loaded onto a flat bed truck, covered in a tarp and driven off. Several local residents witnessed the event and did not believe the official explanation that a Soviet nuclear-powered satellite had re-entered earth’s atmosphere in Kecksburg. It seems the federal government has developed a well-planned response for these kinds of recoveries ever since 1947 and the Roswell Incident.
