MYFOXNY.COM - Streets have reopened and people allowed back into buildings around Times Square after a suspicious vehicle was found to pose no danger.
According to the NYPD, the 1992 Dodge van was parked on Broadway between 42nd and 41st Streets for several days. Bomb squad members could be seen at around 12:30 p.m. opening the back doors of the van without incident.
"There have been no corresponding threats involving the vehicle," said chief NYPD spokesman Paul J. Browne.
Clothing and a table were found inside.
The van had no license plates and a bogus police placard on the dashboard. According to police, the placard refered to an agency in the New York City/ New Jersey area that is non-existent.
The west side of Broadway between 41st and 42nd Streets was closed for approximately two hours.
The buildings at 1460 Broadway and 7 Times Square were evacuated as a precaution. Those buildings are home to the Nasdaq and Conde Nast.
A bomb-detecting robot was brought in shortly after 11 a.m.
SkyFoxHD was over the scene and later asked by police to fly away from the area.
The scene of the suspicious vehicle is the same area where thousands of people are expected to watch the New Year's Eve ball drop.
"The NYPD takes extra precautions around this time of year, doing sweeps of garages looking for suspicious vehicles," Browne said.
