The Beauty I Once Knew
The mushroom cloud was so tall
I just couldn’t comprehend it all
Took a drive by the empty burning mall
Then from my messiah I got a call,
He said he’d warned me about the fall,
Nowhere left for the kids to play ball
Thought I’d at least survive for the long haul
You can’t walk until you crawl.
A flaming guillotine across the sky
900 mile winds no need to wonder why
My house torched in the blink of an eye
It’s happening in slow motion as I utter a sigh,
Those aren’t mannequins burning like match sticks
Spontaneous combustion with just one click
God I wish all this was just a trick
My stomach’s a little queasy now feeling sick,
The very finger of God some might say
But this aint no tornado on a stormy day
Wish I had someone to die with but you wouldn’t stay
The ash is falling down turning everything gray,
Its visions like this that might delay
The insanity of mankind seeking to enter the fray
Man’s epitaph will read, “One day sanity went astray.”
Did it all happen because I forgot to pray?
A fire in the sky that could have been a UFO or two
Instead only out of control hostility grew
We accept self-evident facts as being true
The green grass and the beauty I once knew.
"Destroying the New World Order"
