We were delighted to hear from Uri Avnery and about his heart that is over Egypt , and read his article entitled : “Egypt , Cry , Beloved Country” published in deLiberation today the 25th of August . We almost cried with him -not over Egypt of course – but over the Picture he stole from me to illustrate his article . The picture was designed by my daughter to illustrate the article entitled :” Crocodile Tears and Democracy” published by deLiberation on the 26th of July .
The peaceful Israeli -if there is such a thing – called Avnery -did not ask permission to use the picture and what he did made my daughter very upset . Upon hearing that he is an Israeli she simply said that since they live on stolen land why should they worry about some picture . We decided to read the article to find out whether there was mention of Daniel Mabsout., but there was no such thing . The crocodiles were mention though and on more than one instance.
Avnery starts by saying that he did not want to write this article in the first place, and we wish he didn’t write it, not only because of the stolen picture and stolen crocodiles, but because of the few Israeli Tips that Avnery -like a good Israeli -did not forget to pass on us , among them that Israel was part of “ recent popular movements for democracy, liberty and social justice throughout the world”, and that Egypt was one hour away from “HOME” , home here meaning occupied Palestine .
Really mister Avnery; it feels good to start one’s life as an Irgun member and end it like a peace dove . Not only this, but reading the whole article one would think that Avnery is living in one of the most prominent or largest democracies on earth- let it be Norway or India because- hearing him speaking about the military in Egypt -and elsewhere- and the generals -one would think that he never experienced anything military and that he just debarked from the North pole . Very strange that none of the military dictators mentioned by him -be it Sissi or Pinochet -reminded him of Netenyahu or -at least- Sharon . But since Sharon and Netenyahu were not brutal to Israelis, this means- for Avnery – that they were not brutal at all .
