The Last Meal
Drifting long on a cloud of memory
All the mistakes and regrets I can see
Wounded by all those who abandoned me
Reality doesn’t fall far from the tree,
Recollections as the winter weather rolls in
Self-recrimination can be a sin
It’s not what you’ve done it’s where you’ve been
Late night reflections and Vermouth along with gin,
Drifting on the fleeting comradery
I fell in with her because she was easy
Why are my eyes now getting misty?
Seeking some solace on bended knee,
The clock says it’s two in the morning
Death came to those I loved without a warning
To the limitations of life we are conforming
Toast a glass to the truth that they’re ignoring,
The days and nights have blown away
Leaving the heroes to expire in the fray
I can feel the warmth where she once lay
Through eyes grown cold and gray,
As though drifting out of body I feel
Can‘t I be forgiven, what’s the deal?
The Savior lies in the cave just break the seal
The one with whom we shared the last meal.
