The Mermaid
When you pulled your life from mine
Something was left trailing from behind
Like a ghostly shadow I could never find
Like a phantom mirror with an image so unkind,
Trying so hard just to carry on
Dried blood from a battle is never really gone,
Something I fear has gone perpetually askew
No answers will ever come from you
Where is the gleam of morning dew?
All those memories we both knew,
A spring of love becomes a cold winter
Then dreams of the future begin to splinter
What was love now a burned out cinder
In the sky an unknown airborne cylinder,
Trying so hard just to carry on
Dried blood from a battle is never really gone,
In the darkness there is no embrace
Afraid I can no longer keep pace
No longer is there a smile upon this face
My steed collapsed and fell out of the race,
The rough seas of a world who does not care
Rogue waves are approaching as I stare
On the deck of a vessel that is in despair
A Mermaid pulls me down under into her lair,
Opening my mouth to breath but there's no air
Drowning on sea water but her lips are there
She pulls me down further with a hypnotic stare
The dying breath of a life I can no longer bear,
Trying so hard just to carry on
Dried blood from a battle is never really gone.
