When I opened my porthole to another place and time
Watching the delusional so self-assured and sublime
To have a different opinion than them is a crime
The lobotomization pit out of which they climb,

The pod people on campuses everywhere
They will insult you maybe even murder you without a care
The very making of an orchestrated social nightmare
The responsibility of free speech too much to bear,

They're all addicted to that electronic hum
Brain dead, deaf, and dumb
Got that cell phone under their thumb
Big government beating their drum,

The collectivist mindset their anthem of choice
Video games their inspirational voice
Kill the innocent and they’ll rejoice
Even though your eyes may get a little moist,

The pod people want you to pay for their tuition
They want their dystopian dream to come to fruition
Leaving our society in a state of constant suspicion
How much more shall we suffer the attrition?

Imprisoned in this time with nowhere else to go
Upon the grounds of higher learning the blood does flow
Some might seek shelter in the hedgerows
What will happen next? Nobody knows,

It seems we gave up on civility long ago
Even in the entrapment of technology it still shows
When ideologies clash it will come to blows
With the flaws of human nature anything goes,

Back to my porthole of time and space
Can’t shed a cosmic tear for the human race
Not for a bottle of perfume or a can of mace
As my trembling fingers reach to unravel her seductive lace.
