The Shadow that You Cast
We could have had happiness and compatibility
Casting the sadness of the past into the sea
Love is the only thing in life that’s free
But you wouldn’t let it be, you wouldn’t let it be,
Investing way too many years
Living so close to all your fears
Convicted by a jury of your peers
Enduring all your frowns and your sneers,
Not your blame game just reality
Without your sanctimony or frailty
For one time just a little humility
But you wouldn’t let it be, you wouldn’t let it be,
Trying to pull away from the past
The happy life doesn’t always last
You can fly your flag at half mast
Just look at that shadow that you cast,
Upon the lives of all you’ve touched
Wish I didn’t remember it so much
What a waste of time in as such
Always playing the victim you’re favorite crutch,
Why couldn’t you ever just be free?
No, don’t wave that gun at me
Try a little sympathy and a cup of tea
But you wouldn’t let it be, you wouldn’t let it be,
I will just try and move on
There’ll will always be a new dawn
There are spirits out dancing on my lawn
I’ll succeed despite all the lies you’ve spawned.
