The State of Being
Who really cares?
Are you really there?
When life’s too much to bare
With all the personal tragedies we all share,
With all the powerless deities in the air
Faith has become the ultimate dare
Natural disasters are the Devil’s lair
Some of us wake up to a nightmare,
Some of us enveloped by a shimmering light
Snuffed out like a candle in the middle of the night
Most are too self-centered to notice another’s plight
Only the lonely seek arms to hold them tight,
Throwing away love like it never did exist
Forgetting the first time you ever kissed
Denying the beauty you’ve always missed
Amazingly all the wonders that you resist,
It’s just the state of being you can’t recognize
How did your heart become so fossilized?
How much of your love can you recognize?
Reflections of all that you’ve finalized,
Once I could appreciate the calling of a bird
Somehow thankfulness must have occurred
The longing for love and those old feelings are stirred
The passionate cries of a lover I once heard,
Who really cares?
Are you really there?
When life’s too much to bare
With all the personal tragedies we all share.
