The World Again
A beautiful angel picked me up off the ground
And I heard this unique and wonderful sound
It was her voice as if heaven bound
For once I was not so down,
Like a ballerina in the air
With skin so perfect and fair
I glanced spellbound into her loving stare
I had to pinch myself was she really there?
From my sorrow I was swept away
No longer a victim to be betrayed
The one I could count on to stay
Never thought it could happen this way,
Like a cool breeze on a sultry day
A world that could exist beyond dismay
I knew she would always be there and never stray
She was the very creature for which every man would pray,
There I was in the middle of magical bliss
Hardly able to grasp what I’d done to deserve this
Too accustomed to a life of hit or miss
I knelt before her in a gesture of thankfulness,
Like a junkie locked in a narcotic dream
For once I was convinced there was no scheme
“Deliver me! Deliver me!” I screamed
But things were not what they seemed,
Suddenly something emerged from the shadow realm
The captain of the dream boat was no longer at the helm
It seemed I’d fallen from a high limb of an elm
A sudden realization began to overwhelm,
A man dying of thirst in a desert sees a mirage
The love I’d embraced was camouflaged
My salvation from an angel sabotaged
As if I’d awoken in an ER room during a heart massage,
Back to the familiarity of the world again
Back to the destructive works of men
Back to the hungry Grizzly’s den
Back to being without a friend.
