Thought I knew

If today you have a bruise in your mind

It’s the atrocities that you’ll find

Underground mercury where the insanity can be mined

Is there anyone left who can be kind?

In a world of illusion where lies fall like rain

The zero sum gain

The land where no tiger can be tamed,

They may say, “Put on a helmet the time is near.”

Excuse me, Sir, can you make it clear?

Looking at the past from my rear view mirror

Thinking of when I called you “Dear”,

Allegiance is a past due expression

Nothing more than an ill-advised confession

Get ready, Congress is in session

All the lies will pour forth in succession,

There was a time I thought I knew who you were

When it came to lies you showed me the grand tour

Forgive me for thoughts that are impure

Like a fish I fell for the lure,

Life is a strange thing to ponder

Like being in a bomber flying in the wild blue yonder

Oh the time of my life I’ve squandered

Unlike that of a first responder,

You have the distinction of my personal tragedy

How easily you forgive yourself of such atrocity

Rationalizing the sins you commit in order to be free

In this warped world you’ve earned your decree.
