Creature From Back Lake made in 1976.

A low budget film but a true gem of intense drama! I think this is the best Bigfoot type movie I’ve ever seen! With great performances turned in by star John David Carson, Dennis Fimple, veteran actors Dub Taylor, and Jack Elam. Creature From Black lake delivers raw mystery and terror!

The story about a couple of college students who have embarked on an unknown primate expedition on a minimum budget research grant from their school, with interest generated by reports of a mysterious creature lurking in Oil City, Louisiana, the two best friends encounter small town indifference, the sheriff’s daughter, and a murderous humanoid entity that resembles Sasquatch. Having lived in this area with my ex-wife in that same era, I can vouch for the incredible realistic depiction of the that decade! It is Americana of backwoods life in the 70’s with post-Vietnam, and anti-hippy sentiment combined. This movie came after “Legend of Boggy Creek” circa 1972, which already had people in an uproar over Bigfoot reports, but “Creature From Black Lake” will have you reconsidering any fishing trips to the swamps of Southeast, Texas or the Bayous of Louisiana any time soon!

HORROR 101 with Dr. AC: THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE (1973) Blu-ray Review

“The Legend of Hell House”

Released in 1973 is probably the most intricate and horrific movie based on an actual true story about a project designed to scientifically test efforts to exorcise a mansion with a long history of hauntings by a suspected multiplicity of evil spirits. A team of young psychics who are veterans of previous paranormal projects combine with a scientist who has created an electronic machine he believes can clear the house of these evil spirits! The paranormal investigative group encounters the telekinesis of ghostly hauntings that cause fear and bloodshed! The Hell House resists being cleansed of evil to the final few minutes of the movie. Incredible performances by Roddy McDowell and Gayle Hunnicutt, add that very realistic suspense, and to the unpredictable ending!

A note here to the reader. During the filming of the movie the sets and film crew experience a number of dangerous and inexplicable accidents while the making of the movie,

The Norliss Tapes,

Directed by famed TV horror show producer Dan Curtis of the Series “Dark Shadows” aired in 1973, capturing the atmospheric beauty of Northern California at the time along with a story of absolute terror! Roy Thinness of the famous UFO series known as “The Invaders” plays a paranormal investigator who delves into a series of bizarre seemingly Satanic and ritualistic murders that end in one final, incredible trap that Thinness lays for the killer, as he figures out the secret to defeating a possessed zombie who is trying to bring back a demon from hell using human blood from his victims! This is not a movie for the faint of heart, and I think one of the best scenes of an assailant the police are powerless to stop, managing to beat up and escape from several California officers in one hell of a fight scene. The sound track adds to the gloomy atmosphere of the filming and plot! It’s a must see if you enjoy being scared out of your wits for All Hallows Eve.

Note to the reader. This was intended to be a pilot episode for a series that never came through. Apparently the studios thought this was too horrific for TV audiences.

cheeki kea Thanks. I watched most of the movie but I'd forgotten until a few minutes into it that I'd seen this a long time ago and even read Michael Crichton's novel because so many people made a big deal about it. The pilots tasked with dropping the bomb on the affected area dies while in flight because the alien bacteria dissolves his rubber oxygen mask because the life form has traveled into the upper atmosphere. Amazing to watch the old precision technology.

That's a fine movie menu you've got Doc V. I love the old days theme. Great to view when friends visit. My luck is family seem to turn up at the same time and then some movies become unsuitable. Anyways I have a contingency back-up film now after some thought. A nice slow moving sci-fi with just enough twists, turns and surprises meandering through to a sudden short sharp shock at its conclusion. If you haven't seen it and want to (expect baffled scientists, deadly virus, gain of function, underground bio-lab, experiments, space, and coverup etc) then click on link below.    https://archive.org/details/the-andromeda-strain-1971
